BEMROSE,
ZACCHIGNA AND DEASY FEATURE WINNERS
June
14, 2003 - The weather cooperated with us this past Saturday, as
a great crowd witnessed a fantastic night of racing. It was Grant
Kellough Memorial night, and a few of Sunset's own payed
their tribute to "the Rebel" during the intermission (including
former track owner Steve Slaughter). Highland
Chev Olds Cadillac sponsored the night's events, and Spectator
Races had a Jeep against a Thunderbird for the final!
Ken
Bemrose won the Limited Late Model feature for the second week in
a row, making his way through traffic and taking the lead just past
halfway. He clearly was the fastest car on the track, and it was
only a matter of time before he would prevail. Ron Lethbridge had
a great run in the lead for the first part of the race, but had
to settle for second. Ron Quesnelle, Chris Morrow and Simon Lloyd
completed the top five. Lambert Yake had another tough week, as
a wreck involving John Mombourquette (among others) tore up the
right side.
Mark
Zacchigna took a thrilling feature win, as Joe Whittaker and Frank
Davey chased him down from far back. The three beat and banged for
the last two laps, but Joe and Frank had to settle for second and
third. Ernie Fumerton worked his way from 12th for a solid fourth
place finish, and Mark Adams grabbed fifth.
The
4 Cylinders produced a first time feature winner - Bob Deasy made
a smooth run from 11th, working traffic, taking the lead and eventual
win. His Honda CRX ran flawlessly, but the big battle was behind
him. Veterans Bob Phinnemore and Jimmy Carter got second and third,
with young drivers James Rodgers and Adam Tracey checking in with
fourth and fifth. A good run in particular for Tracey, as an early
spin had sent him to the back.
