Mid Season Championship This Weekend

July 2, 2003 - The time is already upon us - Mid Season Championships will take place this Saturday for the Limited Late Model and 4 Cylinder classes. And amidst all the changes that have taken place at Sunset Speedway this year, some things still do stay the same. Here's a quick rundown of the main players in the Limited Late Models that look to be the favourites for the mid season championship (and beyond).

Chris Morrow - #22 CRS Rentals Monte Carlo

The youngest of the top three, Chris certainly leads the pack in terms of past successes. He has been racing for a mere 7 years (6 in Challengers), and has won an amazing 5 championships in that time.

Clearly consistency has been the key to his present position in points, as he has yet to win a feature this year. Chris presently leads second place by 11 points, which is substantial enough considering the top three were separated by only 3 points on the previous week.

Ken Bemrose - #3 Buns Master Lumina

Ken has been racing Challengers at Sunset Speedway for 9 years, but has not yet won a championship. He came close in 1998 and 1999 though, finishing second to a dominant Chris Morrow both times.

His record this year contrasts greatly to the first and third place cars - 5 heats and 2 feature wins so far. His Chevy has been one of the fastest cars on the track, but some tough luck on track has produced 7th or worse finishes in feature races.

Ron Quesnelle - #57 Wyebridge Machine Monte Carlo

Clearly the driver with the most experience is Ron Quesnelle. Ron's first ride was a Super Late Model 20 years ago, and has been racing in the Late Model and Challenger classes for 17 years. In that time, he has been unable to lock up a championship but has come close more than once.

His motive this year has also been consistency - like Chris, Ron has not won a feature this season. He is currently behind the leader by a mere 16 points.
