Mid Season Champs - Lambert Yake and Tim Phinnemore

July 5, 2003 - The weather cooperated with us on Saturday night, topping off a night of great racing for a full grandstand. Lambert Yake jumped out from the outside pole and never looked back, taking the Late Model feature and Mid Season Championship. Vic Parsons could keep up with Yake, but was never able to get a serious run on the lead. Chris Morrow had a good night, getting third in the feature and a great heat win too. Ron Quesnelle worked his way to fourth and Brendan Adams took fifth in the feature. Our other point leader, Ken Bemrose, managed 8th place in the feature - this should change the points to Morrow's and Quesnelle's advantage.

Tim Phinnemore had a dominant run to win the 4 Cylinder feature - he started on the outside pole and was never challenged for the win. Jimmy Carter worked his way up from tenth position to get a hard earned second. Bob Phinnemore, Mike Carson and Rob Snow rounded out the top five. Carson and Snow have stepped up their runs as of late, with good finishes in the features. Carter's finish should help him pull out in the points lead - he also had two second place finishes in his heats.

The Thunder Car division produced another "hat trick" winner - Ernie Fumerton grabbed both his heats and the feature. It was a tough run though, as Mark Adams gave Fumerton all he could handle for most of the feature - Adams worked low looking for room, but couldn't get enough fender in to claim the inside line. Mark Zacchigna checked in for third, with Rob Poole (who also won both his heats) and Frank Davey completed the top five. Early heat action was particularly entertaining, as Billy MacDonald and Andrew Cole had a huge race going side by side for their first heat. Cole's luck ran out in the feature - on the second lap he had a hard wreck into the back stretch wall, putting him out for the night.

Barrie Harley Davidson was on hand to sponsor the race event, and a few cruisers took some "hot laps" out on the track during intermission. The School Buses also ran a couple of races, and the fans just loved it.
