Farrelly
Wins ALSTAR 75 Lapper
July
20,2003 - As per usual on an ALSTAR Super Series night, the
stands were packed and the fans were treated to a show of
the best Late Model racing in Ontario. Jr. Farrelly snagged
the feature event, getting the lead late in the race from
an otherwise dominant Jim Molenhuis. Molenhuis had lead all
the laps up until that point. The car could pull out to a
substantial lead, but the late cautions would tighten up the
field - he ended up settling for a solid second place finish.

Farrelly
ran a smooth race, starting near the front in third, and got
his chance to grab the lead just after a late caution. It
was a classic short track run - saving tires and waiting for
the right opportunity to make a move. Former Sunset Late Model
driver Steve Tiemersma worked his way up from deep in the
field (17th) and picked up a well earned third place finish,
with his brother Derrick Tiemersma (who started 16th) right
on his tail for fourth. Richard Holmes, who started fourth,
picked up fifth on the finish.
The
series leaders did not fare as well in the final rundown.
Jason Shaw, winner of three of the five events in 2003, started
near the back and tried to work forward throughout the race.
He was involved in a spin just past the midway point, and
was sent to the rear of the field. He could not recover from
this setback, and finished back in the running order. Kirk
Hooker, winner of the last ALSTAR event at Peterborough, fared
better with a sixth place run.
