Clarke, Thompson, Davey, Deasy Saturday Feature Winners

August 2, 2003 - On a rainy day that seemed at first to show little promise of clearing, the Racing Gods blessed us with a dry albeit humid night of great racing action! B & B Excavating was on hand to sponsor a big night of racing with the OSCAAR Super Late Model Outlaws and Pro Challenge Cup cars, as well as our own Thunder Cars and 4 Cylinders.

Rob Clarke took the 50 lap OSCAAR Super Late Model feature in a truly dominant run. He started seventh and wasted little time getting to the lead, mostly using the high groove to do it. Once out front, Clarke would pull to a huge lead but multiple cautions foiled his attempts at leaving the pack. Jeff Hanley, after experiencing bad luck in his second heat, raced from mid-pack to claim second finishing spot. He was quick too, but could not keep the same pace as the Clarke rocketship. Bruce Gowland worked his way forward as well, and managed third.

Dennis Thompson led the Pro Challenge Cup field to green and led flag to flag, grabbing the feature win. A few cautions bunched the field on restarts, but otherwise Thompson was not seriously challenged for the win. This series is only in it's infancy, and the drivers put on a great show for the packed crowd - we look forward to seeing them again in September.

In our homegrown series, Flyin' Frank Davey made a stellar run from 12th to capture the Thunder Car feature. He had to get by Amanda Connolly first, and the two drivers had a huge battle for the second spot through the early running. Paul Maltese had a great run going as he led the first part of the race, but was no match for Davey when it came time to surrender the lead. Maltese ended up holding on to second spot, but it was close as he had a tremendous battle with Mark Adams and Mark Zacchigna in the final few laps after a late caution. They would finish third and fourth respectively, with Doug Harvey grabbing fifth.

Bob Deasy once again demonstrated the speed and agility of his IRD Honda, taking the 4 Cylinder feature from deep in the field. Aaron Martyn has his Mustang running very well, and gave Deasy a challenge in the late running. Martyn held on to the second finishing position, with a stout Mike Carson getting a well deserved third. There was plenty of action in this one too, as an early scrap for the lead between Ted Edwards and Tim Phinnemore ended with a spun-out Edwards in turn one - both cars went to the back on the restart and were not factors for the win.
