Tiemersma, Zacchigna, Deasy Feature Winners

August 9, 2003 - A day that started with rain showers turned into one of the best race events of the season, with our regular three classes in attendance. Racing was awesome in all three divisions, with some dark horses racing out front and putting on a great show for our fans. A big thanks to ROCK95 who was on hand to give out prizes and t-shirts to all the winners.

In Limited Late Models, Derrick Tiemersma raced the 97 car normally piloted by Simon Lloyd and grabbed the feature win from the outside pole. Mike Wietzes in particular had an absolutely stellar night, racing well in the heats and working his way forward in the feature - he finished second in a thrilling finish. Brendan Adams also had a great night, starting ninth and eventually finishing third. It was tight, tight racing up front and given a few more laps it could have been anyone's race. Ron Quesnelle made a solid run from mid-pack getting fourth, and Chris Morrow snagged fifth. Ken Bemrose had some tough luck - some type of fuel problem had his car off the pace in the heats but he still managed a tenth place finish in the feature.

The Thunder Cars raced their Mid-Season Championship (made up from the rain-out two weeks ago), and a truly relieved Mark Zacchigna got the win in the same car that was practically totaled 6 days ago (click here to view the wreck from last Sunday). He had a solid run from fifth, and got the lead early. Amanda Connolly was able to get the points lead with a good run in second while Rob Poole, Frank Davey and Doug Harvey completed the top five.

Bob Deasy managed to get his fourth 4 Cylinder feature in a row, winning out on a huge three wide battle for a number of laps with Darren Lloyd and Bob Phinnemore. Lloyd had a great night going until loosing his front right tire assembly and sliding into the turn four wall. Phinnemore would get second with Rob Walt, Aaron Martyn and Rob Snow completing the top five. Mike Carson actually finished third in the feature, but lost his position due to a technical infraction found after the race event.
