September 6, 2003 - A cool start to the day gave way to a perfect night for racing, and a huge night of racing it was for all three of our racing divisions. The Can-Am TQ Midgets were also on hand for their last visit of the year at Sunset.

In the Limited Late Models division, Ron Tracey held off a hard charging Ken Bemrose and claimed a very popular feature victory. His #72 Fine's Home Hardware Monte Carlo has been stout since it returned to Sunset mid-season, and tonight it showed as he took the point around lap 5 and never looked back. Bemrose was strong too, breaking free of the fight behind Tracey and giving him all he could handle in the closing laps. He would have to settle for second. Grant Lloyd finished third, Cory Yake (driving for his father Lambert) had a great run in fourth and Vic Parsons finished fifth. As mentioned, this was a very popular win for the Sunset veteran and a big congratulations goes out to Tracey and his crew.

The Thunder Cars had a big winner as well - Tyler Liscum, driving the #47 Eurotech Automotive Chevrolet, started on the pole and went on to claim his first feature of the year and the first feature ever for the team. Liscum drove a great race, pulling out on the field and making his way through traffic. The hard racing was behind him, as John Carlisle and Amanda Connolly raced forward and fought for second. They would finish second and third, with Frank Davey getting fourth and Rob Poole taking fifth. Liscum has had some exceptional runs in the past few weeks, and obviously the handling and powerplant are both up to full speed. Congrats Tyler!

Bob Deasy continues to write history in his Four Cylinder CRX, starting 12th and zipping to the front using his amazing high line style to accomplish it. Jimmy Carter wasn't about to make it easy for him though, and challenged him for the lead through the waining laps. Unfortunately Carter would once again suffer from a problem in the motor, sputtering to the finish yet still holding on to second spot. Mike Carson had another great run, running up front with the leaders all night in his Mazda and claiming third finishing position - that first feature isn't too far off Mike! Darren Lloyd went with the "primary car" for tonight's race and got fourth. Bob Phinnemore checked in for fifth.

The Can Am Three Quarter Midgets were on hand tonight, and Dave McIntosh got the feature win. James Gray, Jeff Riberdy, Dave Balych and Crain Mackereth completed the top five. It was a very entertaining feature, with hard racing all through the pack. The TQs run extremely fast laps at Sunset (in the mid 13 second range, compared to the Late Models in the mid 15s) and are always a huge draw at Sunset. We look forward to seeing them back next year.
