SERIES EXPANDS TO 11 RACES FOR 2002

On - The 2002 Alstar Late Model Super Series schedule was announced
November 18, expanding it's events by two for a total of eleven
races for the season. One of the two additional tracks within the
southern Ontario market is no stranger to fans; Delaware Speedway
(1/2 mile).
Promoter Joe Chisholm stated "some tracks requested a third
date", although he refrained from saying who those tracks were.
Proof of the popularity of the series, Chisholm also noted that
other radio stations are looking into carrying a race-feed from
Radio Owen Sound, the current race broadcaster.
The season commences on May 18th at Sauble Speedway. Sunset Speedway
will see the Alstars roll in on June 8th and July 20th. One of the
two new evenings of racing will take place on a Friday evening (Delaware).
The other track and date are yet to be announced however some have
speculated on either Kawartha or Flamboro. All other dates are Saturday
nights (Sunset, Barrie, Peterborough, Cayuga and Sauble).
The starting grid for 2002 has also been increased to 26 cars from
24 (at tracks less than a 1/2 mile). Delaware will see 30 cars on
the starting grid, and Cayuga Speedway (5/8 mile) will enjoy an
opening grid of at least 32 cars. The 2002 Points Fund for the Top
24 will also grow from the existing $30k to $35k. And the combined
total points fund will top $196k next year.
Each race will be 75 green-flag laps and each qualifying heat will
be 10 laps. Thirty-eight complete laps (half-way point) will be
considered a complete race in the event of rain.
Alstar has also announced their own Pace Car, which will tour with
the series.
