THE WEATHER WAS HOT AND HUMID AND THE RACING WAS EQUALLY HOT

On the last race night of June the 28^th the weather was humid and action on the track was equally hot as we had an aggressive program at the fastest 1/3 mile oval Sunset Speedway. The features from the 21^st were tacked onto the program as well as a fan appreciation and car show where the fans get to mingle with the drivers getting autographs and pictures with their favourite drivers and we then had a complete show to follow quite an ambitious program to say the least. The night’s sponsor was HF Smith Home Hardware-Cookstown our current Late Model division sponsor. The night’s feature winners were # 47 Tom Walters in the delayed late model feature, # 51 Mark Adams in the Domino’s Pizza Thunder Car, # 04 Brian Love in the Fox’s Bakery & Deli 4 Cylinder Road Runners and # 15 Bob Krystal in the Fox’s Four Funs while the winners for the regular show were # 11 Chris Morrow in the Late Models, # 97 Roy Anderson in the shortened Thunder car, # 48 Nick Brown in the 4 Cylinder Road Runners and the Four Fun feature will be run on another night as we ran out of time to complete the show. We would like to thank the fans who were in attendance as it was a long program.

THE HF SMITH   LATE MODELS:

In the make up feature there was a tremendous battle up front as # 10 Ernie Fumerton was trying to hold off a hard charging trio consisting of # 45 Rob Poole,  # 11 Chris Morrow and # 47 Tom Walters all looking to grab the point. Fumerton was under heavy pressure from Poole while Walters was welded to Morrows bumper both looking for any opportunity to gain a position when the worst possible thing happened as Morrow was exiting turn 4 Walters made contact with him sending Morrow spinning into the infield and to Chris’s credit he didn’t sit and sulk he got the car back on the track and set off to get back to the front.  At the half way point Poole had wrestled the lead from Fumerton and with him came the 47 machine as well as # 57 Ron Quesnelle moved by as well. While Poole was the point man he was under heavy pressure from Walters as they raced side by side for several laps as the 45 of Poole really sticks well on the outside and wasn’t going to get up the lead without a fight. Finally Walters takes the lead and cruises home with the victory with Poole, Quesnelle, # 19 Jason Witty and Fumerton rounding out the fast 5. Congratulations to Tom and the crew on yet another feature win and the drive for 25 is well under way at Sunset Speedway and to Rob for putting on an outstanding show for the crowd.

In the regular feature you have to think that the competitiveness of # 11 Chris Morrow would be evident anything short of a win would be disappointing after the incident that happened in the 1^st feature. On the drop of the green pole sitter # 93 Mike Wietzes would grab the point with Fumerton runner up but in behind was a great battle as # 23 Paul Milligan, Poole, Morrow, # 6 Keith Maiato and Walters all looking to move up in position while scraping for the lead. While Weitzes had checked out on the field the trio in behind were in a major dog fight for position but Morrow looked to be on a mission as he got by Poole as did the 47 machine of Stompin’ Tom and both set their sight’s on the 93 car. The determined Morrow had clearly set his sights on the point and finally ran down the 93 car of Weitzes and deposed of him quickly but don’t look behind as Walters and Poole both passed him and had Morrow in their sights. As they exit turn 4 Morrow holds off a determined bid by Walters looking for his second win on the night while Poole, Witty and Weitzes round out the fast 5. The heat winners were Morrow, Walters, # 40 Charlie Gallant and Witty. Congratulations to Chris and his crew on a great feature win in the Morrow Electric Red Rocket # 11 and our late models show each and every time out that we have the best division anywhere as the racing is outstanding.

THE THUNDER CARS:  

In the make up feature # 27 Howard Eden held the lead early while # 57 Steve Lang, # 51 Mark Adams, # 45 Steve Slaughter Jr. and # 25 Kristi Wolfe were in hot pursuit. On lap 13 Lang goes up in smoke causing a yellow and major clean up. On the restart Eden held the point but was closely pursued by Adams, Slaughter, # 88 Herb Walters and Wolfe all looking to gain a position finally Adams grabbed the point and with him Slaughter and Walters moved to second and third. At the checkered flag Adams, Slaughter, Walters, Eden and # 69 Rob Skyler were the fast 5. Congratulations to Mark on his win as so far 2008 has been an adventure of bad luck hopefully that ended tonight. It was nice to see the cars from Barrie Speedway here and hopefully they can make their way back this year some time thanks guys.

In the regular feature we had a motor go as the # 23 Tammy Milligan car left a trail of oil from turn 1 to turn 4 and because it was past midnight we called it a complete feature win so the fast 5 were # 97 Roy Anderson, Walters, Adams, # 58 Stan Coe and # 25 Kristi Wolfe. The heat winners were Wolfe and Skyler. Congratulations to Roy and his crew on a super win.

THE  4 CYLINDER ROAD RUNNERS:

In the make up race they went green to checkered flag as the # 04 of Brian Love grabbed the early lead and cruised home for the victory but in behind was a mad scramble as there was a mad dash for the runner up spot as Love had checked out on the field. The car on the move was the 63 of Dave Burrows who had moved from his 17^th starting position to grab the 2^nd spot and the remainder of the fast 5 were # 5 Bill Gallant, # 13x Jason Santos and # 10 Doug Butler. Congratulations to Brian and his crew on a fantastic win I believe his first of the year.

In the regular feature we also ran a clean race as this class is the best anywhere in Ontario. The 04 car of Love grabbed the lead and was looking for his second win of the night and the season as well but was under heavy pressure from # 48 Nick Brown but the 2 cars on the move were # 14 Ken Britt and Burrows in the 63 machine. With Brown home and cooled out there was a battle for position in behind and as they crossed the checkered flag with Britt holding off a strong bid by Burrows, # 35 Nick French and # 10 Doug Butler rounded out the top 5. The heat winners were Burrows, French and # 00 Matt Henderson and the consi # 28 Nick Weeda.

 Congratulations to Nick and his crew with his first win of the season.

THE FOUR FUNS:

In the make up feature there a tremendous battle as # 01 Steven Rose was the leader and in behind there was a tremendous battle as # 15 Bob Krystal, # 6 Terry Woodley, # 79 Nicole Podewils and # 69 Trevor Martin were the top 5. With the laps winding down Krystal took the lead away and Rose was under heavy pressure from Woodley as they touched going into turn 1 and then they touched down the back chute with the result Woodley makes heavy contact with the wall with the result he was momentarily knocked out. The race was deemed finished as the fast 5 were Krystal, Podewils, # 9 Marshall Pender, # 35 Myles Jamieson and # 3 Fredric Lacroix as Rose was black flagged for rough driving for the incident with Woodley.

The regular feature was postponed because of time and will be re scheduled to another date. The heat winners were Woodley, Podewils and # 95 Mike Robinson Jr. # 16 Kyle Passer took home the consi.
