THE MORROW BOYZ ZAP THE COMPETITION
On June 7th under a hot and humid weather conditions the action on the fastest 1/3 mile oval in Ontario was equally hot at
the bull ring known as Sunset Speedway. After going 2 weeks with 1 caution total this week yellow flags were in abundance
with everyone aggressively looking to improve their position. We had a change in the race order as we had the 2 four cylinder
races then the thunder car and the grand finale the late model show. The big winners on the night were the 11 car of Chris
Morrow in the HF Smith Home Hardware late models, # 64 Ryan Semple his first ever feature win in the Domino's Pizza thunder
cars, # 63 Dave Burrows in the Fox's Bakery and Deli 4 cylinder road runners, # 6 Terry Woodley in the Fox's four funs and #
57 Steve Lang in the thunder car Australian Pursuit.
HF SMITH HOME HARDWARE LATE MODELS As the late models rolled onto the tarmac to run their 30 lap feature event it appeared the car to beat was the # 47 orange rocket of Stompin' Tom Walters as he won both his heats and appeared extremely quick. On the drop of the green # 28 Rod Tooley grabbed the point but in behind was a fierce battle for position as # 03 Dario Capirchio, # 6 Keith Maiato, # 23 Paul Milligan and # 40 Charlie Gallant were the top 5. On lap 2 the first of a rash of cautions occurred as # 2 Dan Robinson got lose and made hard contact with Mr. Wall on the back chute with # 57 Ron Quesnelle and # 19 Jason Witty going to the pits. On the restart Capirchio wasted little time and grabbed the lead while Tooley and Maiato were side by side so were Gallant and Milligan and # 1 Quick Vic Parsons and # 45 Rob Poole also as the action was as hot as the weather. Another caution flew on lap 6 as Milligan and Tooley got together and another flew shortly as Capirchio and Maiato got together fighting for the lead collecting Gallant in the fray with all 3 summoned to the rear. When the dust had cleared Parsons was the point man but lurking in behind were Morrow in the red rocket and the orange blurr of Walters looking for any opening to move to the front. On the restart the 3 car train Parsons, Morrow and Walters distance themselves from the rest of the field and it promised to be a great finish while Witty and Quesnelle rounded out the fast 5. At the halfway point Parsons was under heavy pressure from Morrow who looked inside but Parsons will never give you the inside so to the outside he ventured and clearly was the faster of the 2 while the cagey multi time track champ Walters had the best seat in the house for this battle. Morrow finally powered by Vic with Walters next looking for an opening while Witty and Quesnelle battled for 4th. The next yellow appeared on lap 17 as Walters and Parsons made contact entering turn 3 with heavy damaged to the front end of the 47 and the call by the starter Rob was black flag driver misconduct to the # 1 machine and Walters had to go to the pits for repairs and summoned to the rear of the field. On the restart there was a new fast 5 Morrow paced the field followed by Witty, Quesnelle, Poole and Milligan and they continued in this order until lap 22 when Quesnelle and Poole got tangled up. As they turned for home exiting turn 4 to take the checkered flag Morrow easily came home with the win while in behind Witty, Gallant, Milligan and surprisingly Walters who came from the back for respective 5th place finish. The heat winners were Walters 2, Morrow and Witty. Congratulations to the Morrow Boyz on a great feature win as the '08 season has not started that well for them but maybe they have turned the corner. It's to bad there was the incident with Vic and Tom as that was shaping up to be a classic battle till the end with 3 fantastic veterans with none of them giving an inch.
THE DOMINO'S PIZZA THUNDER CARS There were 20 thunder cars ready to take on the 1/3 mile bull ring that can jump up and bite you at any time. On the drop of the green flag # 64 Ryan Semple grabs the lead while in behind # 98 Steve Hart, # 25 Kristi Wolfe, # 51 Mark Adams and # 57 Steve Lang were fighting for positions. On lap 4 Lang made heavy contact with the wall and would end his night while Semple still paced the field with Wolfe, Adams, # 58 Stan Coe and # 97 Roy Anderson the fast 5. At the half way point Adams had moved the runner up spot and was pressing Semple as he looked inside then went to the outside and appeared to be the quicker of the 2 appeared to eventually take the point but then disaster struck Adams for the second week in a row as he cuts a tire and has to retire to the pits ending his night. Semple was the point man with Wolfe, # 88 Herb Walters, # 45 Steve Slaughter Jr., and 23 Tammy Milligan the fast 5. As Semple was still the leader in behind was a tremendous battle as Wolfe and Walters went side by side as did Milligan and Slaughter with #69 Rob Skyler was lurking to move up. On the last lap Semple was comfortly in front Walters was second followed by Wolfe while Slaughter, Milligan and Skyler get together but the yellow and checkered flew at the same time so the fast 5 were Semple, Walters, Wolfe, Slaughter and Milligan. The heat winners were Slaughter, Semple, Wolfe and Walters. Congratulations to Ryan and his crew on a great first ever feature win for this second year driver. The Australian Pursuit winner was # 57 Steve Lang who has had a tough year to date.
THE FOX'S BAKERY AND DELI 4 CYLINDER ROAD RUNNERS There were 24 four cylinders to take on the Sunset oval on this hot evening first of the year. On the drop of the green # 5 Bill Gallant grabs the lead with # 54 Joe Ireton, # 78 Jason Martin, # 63 Dave Burrows and # 48 Nick Brown the top 5. At the halfway point Burrows took away the lead with Gallant, # 14 Ken Britt, # 8 Rob Gibson Jr., and # 10 Doug Butler rounding out the fast 5. As the laps were winding down the order basically stayed the same and as they crossed the finish line the fast 5 were Burrows, Gallant, Britt, Gibson and Butler. The heat winners were Gibson and Britt and # 42 Harold Noseworthy took home the consi. Congratulations to Dave and his crew on a fantastic feature victory and get that for sale sign off your car.
THE FOX'S FOUR FUNS On the drop of the green flag the 79 car of Nicole Podewils grabbed the lead with # 15 Bob Mercer, # 3 Fredrick Lacroix, # 55 Bill Campbell and # 6 Terry Woodward were the top 5. Lacroix after a tremendous side by side battle with Podewils with Mercer, Woodward and # 35 Myles Jamieson rounding out the top 5. At the halfway mark Fredrick paced the field while Woodward, Jamieson, Podewils and # 00 Dan Nolan were the fast 5. With Woodward using lapped traffic to perfection found an opening to catch Lacroix napping and took the point away and went on to cruise to victory while in behind there was a great battle for position and as they crossed the finish line the running order was Woodward, Lacroix, Nolan, # 9 Marshall Pender and Jamieson. The heat winners Jamieson and Nolan and Rob Gibson Sr.. Congratulations to Terry and his crew on yet another feature win and looks to be a great season for the 6 car.
Once again with hot and humid weather the crowd was treated to a great night of racing and we had a few new cars with # 71 Tom Janeway and # 10 Ernie Fumerton in the late model division. Next week we welcome the high horse powered, asphalt eating and extremely quick OSCAAR Super late Model Outlaws always a crowd favourite so make sure you get here early as there will be a great crowd for this event and Lucas Oil are the sponsor for the night's activities.
