HANOVER, ON – After challenging for a Super Stock championship at Sunset in 2022 – eventually settling for 3rd in the championship standings – Cory McAllister has confirmed that his team will be back fulltime under the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series banner in 2023.
“That was a wild points chase,” says McAllister with a laugh, in reference to last seasons battle with eventual champion Gerrit Tiemersma and runner-up Johnny Morrison. “We came into the final night up by 1-point and we came away losing by 1-point and placing third. That’s how tight things were”
“It was the toughest points battle I’ve ever been a part of. We didn’t finish outside of the top-5 all season long, which is something I was incredibly proud of. This time around, we know we need more trips to victory lane if we want to be a Sunset Speedway champion – and that’s what we’ve been in the shop all Winter working towards”
For McAllister – a multi-time winner in both Mini Stock and Super Stock competition – the current state of Sunset’s division is too attractive not to be a part of.
“This competition is going to be tight all season long and it should put on an incredible show for the fans,” offers the Hanover, ON product. “There’s a ton of parity in this division and it feels like there’s another good name being added to the roster every other day”
“The Super Stocks at Sunset are an awesome group of drivers and our team knows that, if we want to be on top, everything needs to go the right way,” adds McAllister. “A little luck never hurt either – so, hopefully that’s on our side too”
When asked what factors brought McAllister and his team back to Sunset fulltime, the well-travelled racer made it clear it was never a question as to where he would be racing in 2023.
“The people and the facility at Sunset are top-notch,” says McAllister matter-of-factly. “The entire staff in the pits are there when you need anything and you can genuinely tell that the staff there wants the Speedway to succeed. Brian and Sandra (Todish) treat us well every single time we’re there. It’s just a great place to race”
“It feels like Sunset is really ramping things up this year. There’s a ton of buzz around the place right now and they’re bringing back the NASCAR sanctioning which is a huge deal for a team like ours. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I can’t wait to be back.”
McAllister‘a seasons will be supported by Struyk Energy Systems, Two Speed Motorsports, Elevated Workplace Safety, CM Precision Machine and Welding, Caldecott Millwright Services, Cumming Clean Laundry and Uniform, Epic Racewear, Nicol Insurance Brokers, Schnurr Race Products, Imagewraps.ca and Dave’s Autobody.
