INNISFIL, ON – Rising star Keegan Moat will be back fulltime at Sunset Speedway in 2023, in pursuit of his first career feature victory and what he hopes will be a run towards a division championship.
“My first year racing [in 2021] was only 4 races so the 2022 season gave me a lot more seat time and opportunities to improve as a driver,” explains Moat. “With more time behind the wheel I was able to work through some obstacles. The Junior Late Models don’t run mirrors and we’re not allowed to have radios, so that taught me to listen to my surroundings when I’m racing”
Moat finished 2nd in the 2022 standings and hopes to improve on that position this season.
“This season I’m really hoping to push myself outside of my comfort zone. Most of last season’s roster have sold their cars and moved up, so there’s going to be an entirely new division worth of competition”
“I think this season will be even more intense (than 2022),” continues the Innisfil, ON native. “Jake (Spencer-Walt) is going to be racing for the same championship I am and he’s incredibly good at what he does. He proved last season how fast he can be and I’m really looking forward to testing myself against him”
However, in addition to chasing a first career championship, there’s no question that Moat is every bit as motivated to break through to the victory lane for his first career feature win as well.
“Last season was my first year in a new car and it took me a while to figure it all out and get a feel for it,” admits Moat. “Coming into (2023) I can hit the ground running and race the best that I can. If I keep improving with every race, I feel like we have an excellent chance of getting our team it’s first win.”
Moat will have backing from Canadian Car Care, Klassic Car Wash, Quarrie Tire and Auto, Done Right Autocare, Tony’s One Stop Tire, Overdrive Automotive Orillia, Toronto Insulation, APC Auto Parts, Simcoe Barge and Breakwall and Century 21 Rob Schneider to help him as he chases a Sunset Speedway Championship.
