Butler and Davey Join Stompin’ Tom as 2009 Champions
by Spencer Lewis

6 days removed from crowning Stompin’ Tom Walters as the 2009 Limited Late Model champion, it was time for Sunset Speedway to solidify it’s Mini Stock and Thunder Car titleholders.

The Thunder Cars have been the most hotly contested division all season long, and coming into the final points night, only 6 markers separated leader – and 2008 track champion – ‘The Cheque Casher’ Herb Walters from Flyin’ Frank Davey, a 6-time Thunder Car champion in his own right.

Both drivers started side-by-side,   continued here

PROJECT TRACK CHAMPION REVS IT UP AT SUNSET SPEEDWAY

On Saturday August 22, Project Track Champion in conjunction with Simcoe Community Services came out to Sunset Speedway for an afternoon of fun.  Project Track Champion is a modified race car which was adapted so that a person using a wheelchair would be able to enjoy the speed and thrill of a real race car ride.  Five drivers took part including:  Chris Morrow, Tom Walters, Sean Cronan, Ken Britt and Mark Dilley.  Here are some pictures of the event.

Project Track Champion is dedicated to the promotion of accessibility for persons with a disability in the racing environment.  Project Track Champion is committed to creating, promoting and securing measures to remove barriers that would normally restrict a person with a disability from having an interactive roll within the racing community and other non-related venues.  For more information on Project Track Champion please visit their website.
